Import Clerk / Financial Controller in Cape Town
Time Personnel is currently seeking a meticulous and highly organised professional to join a well-established international import and export company based in Montague Gardens. We are looking for an experienced Import Clerk / Financial Controller to take full ownership of the import lifecycle, managing everything from the initial purchase order through to final delivery. This role demands a high level of precision; your ability to maintain accuracy in both logistics and financial documentation is vital to preventing customs delays and mitigating financial risk.
Requirements
- Grade 12 (Matric) qualification.
- At least 3 years of experience within imports and logistics administration.
- Proven experience working alongside freight forwarders and clearing agents.
- Strong computer literacy, specifically within the Microsoft Office suite.
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel.
- Practical experience using accounting software, with Pastel being highly advantageous.
- Exceptional written and verbal communication skills in English.
- A valid driver’s licence.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Manage the end-to-end import process, overseeing the journey from purchase order to final delivery.
- Serve as the primary point of contact for international suppliers, freight forwarders, and clearing agents to ensure the seamless transit of goods.
- Proactively monitor shipment progress and resolve any logistical or import-related bottlenecks.
- Prepare, verify, and maintain all necessary import documentation, ensuring full compliance at all times.
- Perform accurate calculations for landed costs, product costing, and customer pricing.
- Verify supplier invoices, reconcile import costs, and process payments.
- Maintain precise import costing records and all associated financial documentation.
- Ensure the company remains fully compliant with South African customs legislation, NRCS requirements, and internal import policies.
- Manage marine insurance for shipments, including the coordination of claims where necessary.
- Oversee import tracking schedules, filing systems, and the implementation of import procedures.
- Generate reports and provide general administrative support to the broader business.
- Communicate critical shipment updates, supplier pricing, and new product information to internal stakeholders.
- Capture supplier invoices in Pastel Accounting and support the finance department with reconciliations and general administrative tasks.
