Ackermans
The Ackermans story began in 1916 when Gus Ackerman opened the first store in Wynberg, Cape Town. His vision was to offer customers great products at fantastic prices, a principle that has shaped Ackermans into the trusted value retailer it is today. In 1986, Ackermans became part of the Pepkor Group, further strengthening its position in the retail market.
A Leading Value Fashion Retailer
Today, Ackermans operates more than 850 stores across five countries, making it a leading value fashion retailer for the entire family. The brand offers a wide range of fashion for women, men, kids, and babies, along with homeware, cellular, and essential financial products. Ackermans continues to set the standard for value and affordability, delivering everyday value to its customers.
Our Purpose: Bringing Value to Life
At the heart of Ackermans is a clear purpose: Bringing Value to Life. This purpose guides everything we do, from enriching the lives of our customers and employees to contributing positively to communities and the value retail sector as a whole.
Our People Make the Difference
People are the foundation of Ackermans’ success. We believe in hiring individuals who are passionate about what they do and providing them with opportunities to grow and succeed. Our employees are known as Phadimas, meaning “shine” in Northern Sotho, reflecting our belief that everyone should be encouraged to shine and reach their full potential.
A Culture of Growth and Belonging
We believe the future of Ackermans lies in the hands of our people. Every new Phadima is carefully selected through a rigorous recruitment process to ensure a strong fit with our culture. This approach creates an environment built on encouragement, motivation, and inspiration, where individuals can thrive and help take the Ackermans brand to new heights.
